The Life of Jones
Jones 20/12/2008 - 19/10/2009 R.I.P. This is a tribute to the most remarkable cat I've ever known, who died on 19th Oct 2009 aged just 10 months.
Jones came to us with his brother Monty in February 2009 aged just 8 weeks. From the start he was the bolder of the two, the more intelligent and (dare I say) the better looking. As he grew towards adulthood he was always the first to learn something, but would always teach Monty how to copy him. He discovered the game of Fetch without any human assistance; he learned to drink from the tap; he could catch a small ball tossed to him; he knew that standing on our bladders in the morning would get us up to feed him. He knew how to get things from us, but he gave us so much fun and magic in return. He was such good company for us and especially for his brother. They rarely fought, did most things together and although they had both started to develop their own personalities Jones stood out as a character with his quirky nature and funny little ways.
He was wary of people and noises when outdoors and preferred the indoor comforts of home at night, which is why we knew something was very wrong when he failed to come home last night. I went looking, fearing he might be locked in a shed or something. Seeing his brother out the front of the house behaving weirdly I went to investigate and found Jones' body at the roadside, covered in a towel. He had been hit by a car and had been dead for quite a while. Someone had removed him from the road and done a bit of cleaning up - thank you, whoever you are. We owe you a towel and our gratitude.
We are both in shock. Creating this album is my way of trying to remember this amazing cat as he was rather than the way we found him. He's irreplaceable and the void his premature passing has left will never be filled. Monty and Jones were inseparable and only time will tell whether Monty will adjust. I'm having trouble myself. I know he was probably "only" a cat to you, but to us he was so much more. He gave us so much pleasure in his short life and we will never forget him.
Rest in peace, little fella.
